Army celebrates ‘Budgam Day’

solemn wreath laying ceremony was conducted at Budgam on Wednesday as a mark of respect for Major Somnath Sharma of Indian Army who died while fighting the invaders from Pakistan on this day in 1947.
Major Sharma and his men of 4 Kumaon fought against Pakistani raiders from reaching Srinagar airfield.
Army celebrates November 03 as ‘Budgam Day’ to commemorate the call of duty by the Indian Army.
Lt General NC Marwah,  AVSM, General Officer Commanding 15 corps paid tribute to Sharma and his men by laying a wreath at the war memorial Budgam.
Also present on the occasion were, Major General Gurdeep Singh, General Officer Commanding Victor Force Brig Anil Panday, Commander 12 Sector Rashtirya Rifles and other civil and police officials.
The event was also witnessed by some senior citizens of District Budgam.
