South Mumbai wears deserted look, as Obama arrives

Mumbai, Nov 6 :Unlike everyday, south Mumbai today wore a deserted look with residents remaining indoors and shops shut, as part of security arrangements for US President Barack Obama's visit here.

"No untoward incident was reported and everything went as per schedule. There was a protest by workers of Left parties (against the visit of Obama). All the restrictions imposed for the visit would continue till the time Obama leaves the city tomorrow," Rajnish Seth, Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) told PTI.

Shops were shut voluntarily by the owners and many people preferred remaining indoors, Seth said.

Over 5,000 security personnel, including US security men, Indian intelligence officials and elite commandos have been deployed in south Mumbai alone, as all venues on the itinerary of the POTUS fall in this region, police said.
