Depends on the scenario and company. I have some long term call options that are up 300% and I am still holding. And some are short term for quick profit.

The way I usually get into calls is when a company I like and invest lot of time researching goes further down in value, I buy the shares on the dip.

And when it drops even further after I bought the shares, that is when I buy calls. At this point there is lot of safety margin and lot of upside potential through calls. If you buy calls straight away and it dips, its painful to look at lol.
