One of my friends passport expired a month ago, she only came to know about it when she was submitting required docs for H1B transfer as she got a new job. She is just concerned what would be the impact of expired passport on H1B passport. 

Although she is trying to apply for Passport asap, she doesn’t have current employer’s I797A form original copy, she has a soft copy, and she believes she needs to notarize the soft copy I797A by showing the original at the time of notary, notarized I797A is one of the required docs for Passport Renewal.

Now she has I797A of her previous employer, when checked the case status, it doesn’t show Revoked, and the valid period on it is until Next year end. So can she use previous employer I797A form for passport renewal. Please help with your valuable suggestions.

Apply passport renewal with previous employer I-797. She will get renewal and I can help her.

there is an expedite process for NRI but there should be strong reason like medical emergency or urgent travel, it needs supporting documents as well to prove her case

valid I797 undi kada and passport renewal can be applied after 1 year of expiry.

Valid Passport is not needed for h1b. Passport is only for travelling outside the country. She better apply in Tatkal and if RFE comes she can submit

I think I-94 might have expired along with the passport if she travelled recently out of country.

Technically H1b extension can be applied with an expired PP, but it is not recommended. 

First things first - go apply for PP renewal in tatkal using some reason that fits for Tatkal. Kaasta opika chesukuni Indian consulate ki poyi in person docs iste - emanna teda unte akkade telustadi. 

Max 2 weeks lo passport vastundi, then send in H1B paperwork.

Yes we have it here as well but have to pay 150$ or something for tatkal

I94 is based on i797 not passport
