tables Posted September 25, 2024 Report Posted September 25, 2024 unless you are decently rich retirement life in US is not great. you will be lonely so need to build a very active community. to afford any help you need to pay. so not a great idea unless you have a paid off house and at least 10 to 15K post tax income. Agree. For Desis, nothing beats India. Move before kids get to middle school. Don't be greedy. Save and invest early. VTI and chill. We have decided to move back to Hyderabad. Social life is awesome back home Quote

You will have to make new friends again. However, if you intend to move to a new place, work for some years and retire there, here's the criteria and places. Criteria - Good Work Opportunites (during working years) Less state tax or no tax Growing desi community (not saturated places like NJ, CA, Dallas) Parks. Communities with Good Schools have good parks. Decent Weather based on your preferences Less crime rate. Entertainment and Dining. If you are into sports, a city that has a major sports team like NFL, NBA, MLB. Places NC - Seems decent from all aspects. TX - Except weather, there are some decent options. CA - May be northern CA like Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom or LA (Simi Valley) I will leave it to others to chime in with other places. I think Denver better TX waste after retirement, if you 1M home you have 3% taxes which will be 30K to approx 3K month only taxes Quote

That’s not true, you get about 4-5K after you retire per month so you should be good to live here if your house is paid off Quote
