It is not based on a book… they don’t have the story upfront.. they go season by season and write the story for that season and each episode… tv dramas ki writing process chala tough untaadi antaa 

to me, the series was just good until Gus fring is introduced.. it became epic with his entry..

Actually director wanted to kill Jesse character by end of season one anta

Gilligan originally intended for Pinkman to be killed at the end of Breaking Bad's first season in a botched drug deal as a plot device to plague Walter White with guilt. However, Gilligan said by the second episode of the season, he was so impressed with Paul's performance that "it became pretty clear early on that that would be a huge, colossal mistake, to kill off Jesse"

Many show creators agree that when they come across great actors in their shows, the characters evolve on their own.. their writing gets easier and they will also explore more length for these characters… Jesse, Gus, Saul - all are very good actors and there were all hired for one or two seasons only as non lead characters
