Gaetz has already resigned from the House of Representatives for this term but was re-elected to the Congress that is sworn into office on January 3rd. He will return as a lawmaker.

It's all scripted to save gaetz from ethics committee report. Everyone knew he wouldn't get confirmed for which he was nominated 2 days before release vote and gaetz resigned 1 day before release vote and speaker gives that reason to oppose releasing report.
