I have ICICI NRE/NRO with debit card and UPI/Phonepe on my tmobile[with intl roaming]. With this setup you dont have to carry cash at all in India. US Credit cards dont work at many places in India.

Hyd city lo i order uber [tmobile works fully in india] to go around by myself and if going to restaurant/pub/shopping then debit/UPI/Phonepe is just awesome. The only thing I miss is swiggy, it is still not allowed on intl numbers so I use my dad's phone for ordering food.

Of course if you go to india once in 4-5 years and visit just parents/relatives place then you don't need all this setup. Majority NRI uncles still carry cash.
