owning vs renting is individual preference.

SFH all the way as I experienced both, peace of mind untundi SFH lo, less nosy neighbours, no neighbours to complain about noise, will also be good for kids to play in backyard, on the flipside maintenance can cost you, responsibility to get things fixed could fall on you

couple with out kids and enjoying aithe would suggest apartment in a good central location (not desi suburbs) for ease of access to entertainment etc

with 1-2 kids ante SFH will be more preaceful

once SFH experience chesaka people will rarely go to a smaller home, that should tell you something.

Do you have kids? If so what ages?

It's not what we teach kids or values, false prestige, etc ... If kids age < 10, they don't care where you live. However >10 kids become aware. They start seeing the differences between them and others. They become aware. It might bother them but they may not tell you. Comparisons. Of course, once kids reach 16-17 they understand and don't care about these anymore. 

It's that tender age when they don't understand but start seeing materialistic things like cars, homes, clothes, etc., and it might even impact their confidence.
