Which part of the country? Brick will be expensive than hardie boards and will also look better. Stucco looks even better but is not suitable for cold climate.

Not 100% durable, you will see gaps between slidings in just few years that cause minor infestations which eventually convert into major ones

fiber cement siding is cheaper, keep hearing that it is equally good but cost is less....i'm looking at spec homes which are already built with fiber cement siding

I had a similar debate when building my place. Brick felt solid, but siding was cheaper and quicker. A buddy helped with the stucco work, and for mixing, we looked into a harbor freight cement mixer alternative since their stuff kept breaking on job sites. Ended up borrowing a used one from a neighbor—worked way better for the small batches we needed.
