Canada already functions as a 51st state. Canada is a part of NATO. Most corps in Canada are owned by US corps. The founding stock is largely same, although US has a lot of mixing from sun shine Europeans. There are rumblings in Prairie Canadians of ethnic Slavic stock and American stock of joining the US by breaking away from Canada already. If the country is broken economically through trade war, may be it creates a perfect opportunity for the idea to get traction in mainstream, as food come first before "culture/roots". Or maybe that's the elites plan all along.
