Elon Musk and MAGA are striking a compromise on H1B. The current scenario looks this way.

Increasing the min pay and yearly fees will drive more offshoring , mark my words, most of the tech companies are already opening 10 positions in offshore countries vs 1-2 in usa in the past 2-3 years, this does not mean just India, offshoring to middle eastern, european , south east asian countries is also on rise, this will become even more of a trend with all this uncertainty over h1b, Companies will also slowly decrease reliance on h1b in the coming days to avoid negative spotlight in the next 1-2 years and focus more on offshoring

Increasing min pay and yearly fees will also decimate the witch model and f1 student visas, I'm sure if min sal is 120-150k, it will cause significant problems for opt/cpt students who may not reach that salary in 2-3 years, so in short term I expect f1 students will face increasing difficulties as they find it difficult to land companies who sponsor for h1b after 2-3 years, witch will probably adapt to this situation to remake the model as 5:95 and decrease reliance on h1b and file more l1 or some other visas unless they are also curbed

In short team, lot of uncertainty for h1b visa holders, nothing we can do as its not in our hands, better to join tech companies that have offices in big cities back in India, you can make that transition if needed if something goes wrong 

I'm thinking they will probably pass something before the next lottery or pause the lottery until some guidelines are in place

not fear mongering but if you are on h1b, then be prepared, reduce expenses and investments this year and up skill yourself and also check for transfer to other offices in Canada, UK, Europe, India etc.
