1. Is the source code public? 

2. Is the EVM architecture and specification public?

3. Are there any data Integrity measures for e.g., time stamps?

4. Were they audited post polls ?

If you don't have concrete answers to all these, then don't be certain about the results themselves.

I have my own apprehension and doubts on EVM’s and if we compare the fraud levels to ballot boxes the risk factor doesn't change much…

With Ballot boxes, all that we need to do is to capture few booths per area and the final result can be rigged and even at counting station, one can influence the numbers. 
 

Source code, time stamps, etc it’s better not to reveal to public but at the same time, I think there is a need to re-check the data post polls. May be an independent nodal authority who can audit post polls. We are however saving significant time and effort using EVM’s and can invest some of such saved effort to re-verify, check for randomness in samples and irrespective of the outcome all EVM’s should be certified by a nodal authority so that we can eliminate the doubts/requests/VVPAT’s etc.

A govt.is fiduciary to the public. If public cnt be convinced about EVMs then there is no point.  

You can still change the results completely with EVMs as well. All you need is few EVMs and the current 5% VVPAT match will still not catch you in like 8 out of 10 times. Simple hypergeometric distribution tho easy ga calculate cheyyochu adhi. Aa 5% VVPAT verification kooda random ante naaku doubte. Aa algorithm kooda tweak cheyyochu. Peruke random adhi select machines me pick chesthundochu. Without time stamps how will you assure if EVMs have been swapped or not?
