I am the owner and the tenant is not paying rent past 6 months. I am fighting eviction in the municipal court.
Tenant is now asking for a Jury Trial just 2 days before the court date 17th Jan which I learnt this morning. Tenant owes $7000 rent. I had to wait 3 hours in front of Judge to get my turn and they tell me my tenant filed for Jury trial. So total 3 days wasted. Earlier I waited from 730am to 3pm in line and tenant came in person but judge was not there on 14th Jan. Today from 800am to 1130am. 1130am I learn Tenant filed for Jury Trial 2 days ago. How fair is this ? Who will pay for all my waiting hours ?
Houston TX - Chimney Rock Court 77096 Justice 5 precinct 2.
Jury Trial is set on 29th Jan.
Has any one faced a Jury Trial in eviction cases in Texas?  Do I need an attorney or can I do this myself?
QUESTIONS:
How is this Jury trial different than the regular judge? It seems tenant was to bring up some maintenance issues and other issues. As a plaintiff what I am supposed to be prepared with ?
Unpaid rent $7090 is in the 1st comment.  From August 2024 Tenant not paying rent.  Tenant is a American Lady in 30's with a 7 year old daughter.

Classic example of why not to go for non -commercial rental properties for average desi joes. Just index and chill.
