Modi govt gives its biggest ally another boost—Rs 11,440 crore revival plan for AP’s Vizag Steel Pla

Hyderabad: The Narendra Modi government has announced a Rs 11,440-crore revival package for the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), better known as Vizag Steel, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam.

 

The move comes just over a week after the PM’s visit to Visakhapatnam on 8 January, when he laid the foundation for projects worth over Rs 2.08 lakh crore.

 

The Modi government’s plans since early 2021 to privatise the Vizag Steel Plant (VSP)—an industrial icon, especially for the Uttarandhra region (north coastal Andhra Pradesh)—were met with massive protests in the port city and caused much political uproar, particularly during state elections.

A relay sit-in protest by workers, backed by Left-affiliated trade unions such as the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), has been ongoing at the VSP for over 1,430 days, demanding the Centre withdraw its privatisation efforts or merge RINL with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

This is not just a financial revival - but the fulfilment of a promise written in the sacrifices of 1966. The spirit of Visakhapatnam Steel lives on!,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.

that steel plant has 2lac crores worth of properties, its in loss because there is no dedicated iron ore mines

govts are interested to give dedicated iron ore mines to private industries but not its own govt plant, instead of this monetary package govt would have given a dedicated iron ore mines 

the claim its making losses is a propaganda to belittle the worth of the plant and later it will be given to mittal or adani for cheaper price (2lacs crors worth plant for few thousands of crors)

Properties ekkadi nundi vachayi, govt ichinave kada. Govt vatiki asalu enduku ivvali, govt ki em pani steel business lo.  Private ki ichetapudu transparent ga auction veyali anthe kani govt running is not correct. pani cheyani unions ki mepadam thappa no use.
