Helicopters especially military copters have ground handlers, even for routine sorties and training. Chopper pilots are guided by ground facility all the time and monitored live. The flight path, altitude is heavily dependent on ground facility. 

The pilot can avert if he had seen it coming by but altitude and speed are tricky, last minute maneuvers are hardly successful. For aeroplane pilot, its flight path is locked…
