You need a homogenous nation to work properly with same culture ,you can't mix mash every culture under the sun and call it a nation.difference between a country and nation is that a nation is based on people with similar culture while country just refers to administrative borders ,china is a nation while india is a country.

And also china had revolution where they have killed many feudals and discouraged religion.

Also top level in China isn't corrupt since it's not a democracy there is no coorporate lobbying as well.

Because of cold war climate at that time. India emo NAM ani pichi fook policy pettukundi and Nixon wanted to counter Russia influence in Asia. Same reason they recognized prc and restored their seat in security council. He had a bad opinion on Indians as well. And like every thing US does it will come back to bite them, now it's threatened by China's growth. 

On the other hand China was struggling economically from communism and Deng Xiaoping took the opportunity from Nixon. As political stigma went away companies setup shop which were seeing high domestic costs of unionized labor in USA and sell to new customer base.

 India during same time went other way and doubled down on stupidity with license raj, nationalizing banks, emergency etc .
