I don’t interact directly with offshore. I make sure I have a good onsite coordinator. I set my expectations. I give them credit when due, protect them if needed when they do something wrong, ask them to take action on repeated failures, treat them equally as our employees. 
Visit them once in a while and keep interactions very casual. I tell them very clearly not to be formal in dressing or talk while interacting with me. 
Politics are common there. Sometimes they try to take advantage of closeness to me and try to Rat out someone, I smile and ask them to complain internally. I can only listen but never indulge in their stuff. Strictly professional. 
Works well for me.
