kevinUsa Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 Need Urgent Financial Assistance/Guidance Hello everyone, I am an Indian student pursuing my Master’s in Data Science in the US. I had taken an education loan of ₹50 lakh from HDFC Credila, but unfortunately, it is not sufficient to cover my tuition and living expenses. My university fees are $14,708 per semester, and my living expenses in California are quite high, with rent at $850 per month, plus groceries and other necessities. I recently applied for a top-up loan from HDFC Credila, but it was rejected due to my parents being retired. I also tried ICICI and Tata Capital, but both applications were declined. Currently, I am paying my tuition fees in EMIs, but apart from my January EMI, the rest of my fees are still pending. I also need to arrange funds for my upcoming rent payment on March 1st. MPower is offering me a loan of $10,800, but the interest rate is extremely high at 14%, making it difficult to manage in the long run. I have also reached out to my university’s finance department, but the loan options they provided require a U.S. citizen as a co-applicant, which I do not have. I have been actively searching for an internship in my field to support myself financially, but I haven’t secured one yet. My situation is becoming increasingly difficult, and I am in urgent need of guidance. If anyone has any suggestions regarding funding options, low-interest loans, or any other financial aid possibilities, please let me know. Any help or advice would be deeply appreciated. Thank you in ad vance! Quote

Chittoorodu Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 College fees have sky rocketed - Think this 50 ~ 75 lacs loan would have balooned to 1Cr+ by the time he gets a full time job. Spend 2+ years in OPT to payback your loan and start saving for your own after. Meanwhile you reach your 30's. Sadly - Study in good colleges (High fee) are incentivized if you have parents who can pay the loan for you. Quote

They go to edu consultancies pay money and just wait for I20's sadly. Every one of my cousin who moved to the states all have colleges picked by consultancies in remote towns and no proper recognition except for 1. Still remember - I had a total spreadsheet with Fee + Scholarship + COL + Timeframe and wrote my own LOR's and SOP's - Filled my own applications and wrote to Department emails for consideration. All 360 degrees. Quote

I say this to every MS aspirant who isnt from rich family background. Daya chesi dont pick colleges in HCOL areas - you will suffer ani. California ante - You are looking at $1k per month for expenses as student. Adi kuda if you are frugal. Quote
