I used to take ganga dip bath in haridwar and rishikesh..back in 1998-99 until 2002. For four years.. used to live in delhi 

Very unsafe water .. ganga nad yamuna..too many pesticides and chemicals..drainage and human,  animal parts.

For drinking we used to drive all the way up to neelkant temple up the hills crossing ram jhula and laxman jhula and there is a spring that cones from the mountain melting ice ..we used to collect water there and take home back with us.  Total 3 hiur journey in bolero or tata sumo in 1998

One time we forgot to take one extra ganga jal bottler for my neighbours ..and we already returned back to rishikesh and haridwar ghat. Water over there is clearly murky.. so we collected the water in manikaran in parvathi river !!
