WASHINGTON, March 11 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Tuesday doubled his planned tariff on all steel and aluminum products coming into the United States from Canada, bringing the total to 50%, in response to the province of Ontario placing a 25% tariff on electricity coming into the U.S.

Trump said in a post on Truth Social he has instructed his commerce secretary to add an additional 25% tariff on the products that will go into effect on Wednesday morning.

"Also, Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous. I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area," Trump wrote.

He also threatened to "substantially increase" tariffs on cars coming into the United States on April 2 "if other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada."

So US puts tariffs on Canada, then Canada puts tariffs on US, then US puts more tariffs on Canada. where will this stop?

  • Brinkmanship involves creating a crisis that neither side controls, which increases the risk of miscalculation and escalation.

  • Brinkmanship is characterized by risk-taking policies that could lead to disaster.

  • Brinkmanship can backfire if both sides engage in it.

No miscalculation. Trump has all bargaining chips, Canada has none. With all lunatics running Canada they will wreck it into the ground.

It's simple Canadian prime minister calls snap election... saying nation is at threat and he requires mandate....

External threat showing dumps 51st state remarks and tarrifs.... rebuttal ha Canada stopping electricity and oil exports.....

Many rural places in Midwest US would be in dark for few weeks.....

Canadian PM having deals with Europe, south America, China for energy exports

Labour returns in Canada with a resound majority and will be in a strong position at bargaining table ....

Canada has 53 bn $ deficit with US if you take out energy exports....more loss to US than Canada...in every way possible...
