I was pulled over by a police officer this morning while I was dropping my son off in a local residential area. I went through a traffic light and gradually increased my speed. The officer said I was exceeding the speed limit; the limit is 25 mph, and I was going 45 mph as per Cop —20 miles over the limit but my son and I assume we were not.  I received a fine of $183, but there were no points added to my record.

This is my first traffic fine and the first time I've been pulled over in my 17 years of driving. I wonder if I can go to court to contest the fine or potentially have it reduced or removed. If I decide to pay the fine, will I give up my chance to contest it in court. If I go to court and lose, is there a chance that the fine could increase or that I could receive additional penalties or points?

I never been to a pulled up and no experience with citations.

Thank you for your advice.

As far as I know, people contest the tickets to have the ticket dismissed it in the court or pay more fine to alter the violation to smaller offenses in order to reduce the impact on insurance premiums

Thank you all for your responses. They have not given points, which is good. I am only worrying - if I contest, do they give points and increase the fine? As long as they do not reduce or if no change is enough.
