Popular Post Flush Posted March 31 Popular Post Report Posted March 31 1 hour ago, Andhrababu2023 said: Pls suggest some good resorts with kitchen and have beach access also what activities good @Spartan @ARYA per my research and experience -Honolulu island is like crowd and feels like metro so I put this island a side. -Maui - KUHULUI - OGG airport. There is Costco and Walmart near to airport. Must shop(Water and basic food) - In case Afternoon landed, near by OGG airport -IAO VALLEY state park (completed with in 1-1:30 hrs. small hikes beautiful forest and river flow). 5 miles from airport. You can park car road side to avoid parking fees. -Next day whole day to ROAD to HANA. Its a tropical rain forest. Must hit the road by 7-8am in the morning so that you can cover most places(Twin falls, Garden of Eden Arboretum, Haiku, Keana(Lava rocks), ). Must fill up gas, bring food and water. There are a lot of water falls. pull your car and visit. Roads are very narrow but drivable. - Haleakala National park. Sunrise is beautiful. If you plan to sunrise, make sure book the parking permit($1 per vehicle) from recreation.gov other wise THEY WONT ALLOW you. its a 10,000ft high so must bring Gloves, sweaters, ear warmers and Quilts. Sunrise around 5:45 - 6:00 am depends on season. Its almost 2 hours from KIHEI. Must start from 3:30 AM. I heard SUNSET is also good. For sunset, parking permit is not required. National park entrance fee $30. -Makena Lava fields. rugged road. Regularegular sedan car works. we can complete with in 1-2 hours. -Waihe Ridge trail 2-3 hours. -Wailea beaches and resorts are awesome. There will be a public beach walk ways. Nice to walk at sunset. -LAHANIA and KAANAPALLI beach are beautiful. -Activities. -SUBMARINE trip in LAHANIA. Awesome experience under 120 feet ocean. bit expensive $130 per head. Total 3 hours trip. -Snorkeling - we are non swimmers. so booked 1 on 1 session. worth it. $160 per head. for regular, you might get it for $60-$80. Best place to do Snorkel at MOLOKINI or LAHANIA. Total 2 hours. -SUNSET cruise from LAHANIA or KAANAPALLI. $80 per head approx. Total 2 hours. -LUAU Dance (Fire dance). Per head aprox $150-$200 I guess with dinner/drinks. -Whale watch . Dec to April. we just missed it. SEDAN/COMPACT car works but prefer convertibles or JEEP wrangler etc. Rental cars in HAWAII are very expensive. Let me know I can tell you how to book car for decent price Yes, there are some places you will get tender coconuts. Avg $7 for tender coconut. Extra $2-$3 meat out of it. - Twin falls entrance(Road to Hana). - On the way to blow hole (Wailuku). -Lahania farmers market I guess ________________________________________ Start with Maui, Here you go http://travel.ninemsn.com.au/internationalinsiders/hawaii/684366/hawaii-one-week-maui-itinerary http://www.frommers.com/destinations/maui/662946#sthash.icKxdj7f.dpbs http://www.fodors.com/community/united-states/please-critique-our-maui-itinerary.cfm http://www.hawaiianairlines.com/specialoffers/documents/7days-maui.html?hacmp=EMC_Seven_Perfect_Days_Hilton http://www.oldlahainaluau.com/ http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-feast-at-lele-lahaina?osq=Maui+Luau This is what we did for our 1st anniversary, https://www.tombarefoot.com/things-to-do-in-hawaii/island/maui/2 Tombarefoot is a concierge service where you can book different activities easily. ARYA Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 I'm not sure if Lahaina downtown is back after the huge wild fire that happened... try spliting days between Hana(rain forest side) and Lahaina/Wailea if you don't want to get stuck in traffic... there are many resources online and if you want check out costco travel, they offer good packages with flight+hotel+car rentals... I'd suggest staying around Kanapalii as there many resorts and condominiums with good restaurants and easy access to most of the locations on the west coast.. out of all the Hawaiian islands maui is the best with the variety of landscapes it offers... andhra_jp Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 After the rise of sugarcane plantations in the mid 19th century, island ecology changed dramatically. Plantations require massive quantities of water, and European and American plantation owners transformed the land in order to access it, primarily by building tunnels to divert water from the mountains to the plantations, constructing reservoirs, and digging wells. These changes have made lasting impacts on the land and continue to contribute to resource scarcity for Native Hawaiians today. Tourism is an important part of the Hawaiian economy as it represents ¼ of the economy. The tourism industry's ongoing expansion and its pressure on local systems of ecology, cultural tradition and infrastructure is creating a conflict between economic and environmental health. In 2020, the Center for Biological Diversity reported on the plastic pollution of Hawaii's Kamilo beach, citing "massive piles of plastic waste". Invasive species are spreading, and chemical and pathogenic runoff is contaminating groundwater and coastal waters. According to HUD's 2022 Annual Homeless Assessment Report, there were an estimated 5,967 homeless people in Hawaii. democrats rule chesee one of beggar state ni MAGA fans beating chest.. andhra_jp Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 New report questions Hawaii’s economic survivability HONOLULU (KHON2) — A new Aloha United Way (AUW) report shows alarming trends about the dire financial status many families in Hawaii face. Asset limited, income constrained, Employed (ALICE) is what describes 29% of households who earn just enough to get by but not sustainably. “This refers to those who make just enough money to not receive government assistance, but not quite enough to cover the bare necessities, in essence, living paycheck to paycheck,” stated Emmaly Calibraro, AUW Vice President. The survivability budget determines the minimum cost of household necessities such as housing, food, childcare, healthcare and transportation. A single person would pay about $39,000 while a family of four would pay $107,000 – a cost many families are unable to meet. The report shows 58% of families living under the ALICE threshold are native Hawaiians. AUW claimed, more people are leaving the state due to the high cost of living. In 2018, families in Maui County were spending 30% to 50% of their total income towards housing, per Hawaii Community Foundation’s President & CEO, Micah Kane. “Unless we disrupt this system in a massive way, our future is very predictable,” stated Kane. “We’ll continue to see the outmigration of the people we care the most about.” Food insecurity and inflation continue to be growing problems in Hawaii. “46% of families below the threshold are struggling to afford consistent access to food,” said Skjold. “73% of families are saying that they’ve had to make changes since inflation has been increasing and almost half of our families of any income are saying that they have cut back on fresh food in the last two years.” https://www.khon2.com/local-news/new-report-questions-hawaiis-economic-survivability/ Quote
andhra_jp Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 This is America’s worst state for business in 2024, and off-the-charts childcare costs are a big reason The high cost of paradise Hawaii is also America’s most expensive state to do business in, with the third-highest cost of living. Residents and businesses pay the nation’s highest utility costs, and corporate and individual taxes are high. With so many inherent disadvantages, why doesn’t Hawaii finish at the bottom of the rankings every year? The answer, in part, is because it’s Hawaii, with a legendary quality of life. But now, even that is under siege. It is not that Hawaii isn’t still a paradise. But even in a paradise, working families need child care. While licensed child-care facilities are readily available in Hawaii, they are prohibitively expensive. According to Child Care Aware of America, child care in Hawaii costs 18% of the median income for a married couple. That is the most expensive in the country, and nearly twice the national average. An economy struggling to rebound Put it all together, and it leads to America’s second-worst economy, according to the Top States study, after Mississippi. It is little surprise that no major companies are headquartered there. Economic growth was modest last year as the state struggled to recover from the wildfires, and job growth was meager at best.
