Twin Sister Injured In US Accident Paralysed - Pic

G. Archana, the city girl, who survived an accident which claimed her twin sister at Kenlake in the state of Tennessee, USA, on Saturday, came out of coma after an emergency surgery on Sunday. However, she is believed to be paralysed below the waist, said a family member.

Archana was injured and her identical twin sister, G. Arpana, died when a truck rammed into the rear of their car on Saturday. The twins were doing their final MS year at Murray State University in Kentucky. Their father Gambiripet Ravinder has a business in General Bazaar, Secunderabad.

“On Sunday afternoon Mr Ravinder called up the doctors in the US but they said they would reveal any details only on Monday afternoon,” said Mr Naveen, a close relative. “Her cousins who went there told us that that the emergency surgery was successful.”

“Their parents are in a dilemma on whether to go to the US to be with Archana, or to stay here till Arpana’s body arrives,” Mr Naveen said. The family will talk to the US doctors on Monday afternoon and take a decision.

“On Sunday morning when we contacted TANA officials, they said Arpana’s body would probably be sent to India on Thursday or Friday. They said that the documentation was delayed as the accident took place over the weekend,” Mr Naveen said. The family still does not know how the accident occurred.

The mishap occurred while the twin sisters were returning home to Kentucky in a car with their friends after a party at Nashville. The accident at Kenlake killed Arpana. The twins were well-known badminton players in the local circuit.
