You don't need compete with those that are above you everytime. You need to take couple of steps back when needed. India's main problem has always been over reliance on import maal. Electronics space lo near 100% imports ee. Maha aithe assembly chestha unnaru India lo. At least domestic self reliance oka 10 year span lo achieve chesthe, it keeps a lot of money within India.
