Margin call: you use your stocks as collateral at a brokerage firm to trade, example short selling. If your collateral value drops, the brokerage asks you deposit either cash or more stocks, otherwise they sell your collateral stocks in the market and close your account.

circuit breaker: if markets drops 7%, trading is stopped for 15min to stop panic selling and eventual market collapse.
