China will not bow to fresh Trump tariff threat, embassy says

China responded on Monday, asserting it would not yield to pressure or threats after US President Donald Trump pledged to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods if Beijing did not retract its planned countermeasures.

Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for China’s embassy in the United States, told AFP, "We have made it clear repeatedly that pressuring or threatening China is not the right way to engage with us. China will firmly protect its legitimate rights and interests."

China won't care. They don't need to face elections and no one there will dare to protest against their government. So they can wait out Trump who will be blamed if the republicans lose control of house and senate in mid terms .

Realistically Trump has about 22 montns left to stand firm against China .  After that he will be stuck with a unfriendly house and senate .

CCP ( Chinese Communist Party) knows this . They will just wait him out

EU and Canada are democratic countries. They have to be answerable to their people.

The only reason Canadians are standing behind any Canadian politician thats standing firm against Trump is because of Trumps comments on Canada as 51st state .

Canadians are mostly pro-American and are known for their politeness. But Trump managed to anger the even Canadians with his bullying.
