Galactus Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 looks like lot of folks are in denial in this thread, my take: big tech will reduce the number of junior engineers, mostly seniors will be preferred as one of them can do 5x-10x of these engineers with AI tools going forward already lot of companies are using productivity tools to track code and how much of it is through AI, imagine if 30-40% of code is written by AI that would simply means more profit and less engineers required QA/Scrum/program/product are also at big risk as a lot of the workflows will be automated, they will still need few folks but may be not so much Senior managers/Directors etc positions will be even tougher to get in future, reporting structure will grow more flat over long term Agentic code tools will become common in every company tons of automation in all industries adjacent to tech Overall, I see big tech AI reaching escape velocity in 2-3 years, meaning they will start reducing folks a lot after 3 years other big companies will soon follow the trend and may lag a bit so may be 4-5 years until they start reducing in huge numbers almost every company will implement this in some fashion by 5 years large scale layoffs will happen and Industry will change and adapt but gold rush is over, AI skills will be mandatory to get job in 5 years so better start learning them to have a decent job and not be left behind automation will also spill into other industries like law, medical, delivery, logistics etc Quote

Yes..we adopted....Accountants used to be high skilled professionals...now they are just regular employees...and also the size of accounting firms and in-house accountants have reduced drastically... 15 yrs ago, a lot of admin positions used to pay high billings like storage admin, network admin, db admin etc..now all those jobs still exist but due to cloud computing, the number of positions and hourly billings have drastically reduced. Similarly software developer roles won't expire but they could be drastically reduced. You should be worried about reduction rather than outright elimination. Quote
