Bill Gates when he was in charge as CEO , 1979-2000 , there were no public record of any massive layoffs , since Satya Nadella joined 2014 around 43,700 employees laid off , yet he was compensated in 2024 for $79.1 million I understand that at the end a company is evaluated by numbers in terms of EBTDA , Net revenues , stock market price .. Shouldn’t companies think more about their hiring / investment strategies in first place ? Shall they hire per project as 6 months or 1 year contracts with their employees ? Employees have been laid off after 18 and 19 years of contribution to their company. Many others had left their home countries only to join big name like Microsoft and now they don’t even know which country they will live in. The most respectful comments I read was from Scott Hanselman , he acknowledged how hard it is for him as a manager to contribute in this , and he is supporting all his guys on LinkedIn acknowledging how hard workers they are , helping them landing another jobs There should be laws to guarantee employee rights , it’s inhumane to work today on a task that you can’t complete next morning because you have no job anymore
