His biography states their family moved to Delhi region during the reign of Farrukhsiyar. Source: Jawaharlal Nehru A Biography, Frank Moraes (1959) His autobiography (Meri Kahani)states pretty much the same at least from the translated sources. I haven't read the urdu one. Gangadhar Nehru was the Kotwal of Delhi in 1857, during Sepoy Mutiny. Kotwal was the equivalent of Police Commissioner in Mughal Administration. Delhi then was ruled by Bahadur Shah Jafar.
