Chandan11 Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 Escalate to Finance that portal vendor is ripping company money, when it's cheaper outside. Of course let your manager know and keep him in loop while escalating. use this as an option to show you are always trying to help company and get some clout with this.. Quote

Attorney applied for H1-B Renewal and mostly will receive the approval this month. Certainly I have to go for dropbox in India as attorney recommended home country. Company asked me to pay for the extra leg to India and I agreed as it is fair. I am also taking care of my wife and 2 infants expenses and flight tickets which is obvious. The question is company wants me to book everybody's travel through company travel website. The travel website is expensive and have terrible flight with bad connections. I asked if I can book myself and submit for just myself(technically cheaper than company travel website). Manager gaadu you will have to book through company travel portal as we get negotiated price ani saava minguthunnadu. Also hotel kuda cheap di book cheyyi ani saava dobbing. Inko comedy entante during dropbox while in India they want me to use Personal time off instead of remote work. Finally I said I will saving to $3400 USD + my 2 weeks of vacation by avoiding this business trip. Also asked company to figure out the strategy and let me know if they want me to travel or not ani. Is this common in corporate and anybody has such experience. Never experienced this before. Idi $0.5T company malli. You can book your travel through portal and your family's separately in a personal website, you just have to do a little research and make sure there are enough seats in those flights or explore alternative flights for your family to go separately and then you reach India once you are done with your work trip (This is the best way to handle this imo) most companies have negotiated rates ,even if they appear higher to you its a sh*t sandwich you can not avoid, so go ahead and book just for you same with hotel, when you are traveling you have to book with company portal as they have negotiated rates etc, else your manager will have to eat that sh*t sandwich from his manager, so he is right to worry and insist that you book for flight/hotel in the portal, however they should not dictate that your family also book along unless they are paying for your family's tickets, at that point, I would accept the free money, go to India and enjoy the nice trip will probably be better to get a good premium travel credit card to explore lounges and make the trip better for family also, you are right to callout your issues and say you can not travel, it might ruffle some feathers but unless its serious no one will blink an eye and everyone will move on using personal time is also apt, you do not get exemptions just for you because its a big company, rules will be same for everyone, I think its fair 1 Quote

My manager just became a Peoples manager and I am getting a feeling he is spilling beans by looping in HR, Directors, Legal, Immigration etc. I feel its unnecessary. Monday during the meeting if I feel their ask is not reasonable I'll probably convey for them to look for alternatives. Feel dumb to spend 3500USD + Personal time for business travel. Quote

Did you try reserving the seats? book for you via company travel site and reserve a seat. Book for your family and reserve seats separately. That way you can travel together by spending few extra dollars for seat reservations. Quote
letstalk2024 Posted June 14 Report Posted June 14 Call the reservations and refer your ticket from company portal on same flight, they will book for your family separately Quote

VictorLawrence Posted August 23 Report Posted August 23 I had a work trip where the company insisted I use their travel portal too, even though I found way better flights on my own. The connections they offered were awful, and the prices were higher. Out of curiosity, I checked https://www.bookinglane.com/ just to compare options, and the difference was huge. In the end, I told them I’d skip the trip if they weren’t flexible—it wasn’t worth burning extra money and my vacation days for bad travel plans. Quote
