Mana car insurance will extended to rental car.  Assume my car is worth 10k-12k when totaled. So rental car worst case totaled aythe - a different manam out of pocket pay cheyyala ? I see few credit cards offers for damage but as secondary. Better buy the CDW from the rental company ?

I hate to put my primary auto insurance out, first.

This is what I consider (and follow) as better options:

Book with credit cards that offer primary coverage (not secondary) such as Chase Sapphire preferred. Primary is the key part.

Or enroll in paid car rental insurance options for Amex. They charge a fixed amount per rental up to certain number of days. IIRC their options are $27 and  $42 per rental depending on the kind of coverage you have.

If you are not comfortable with these - then CDW.

After all these let your primary auto be exposed.

Collision on your rental car is covered.. not your liability in case you are at fault and you caused any damage.. Google it

What isn't covered?

Typically not covered are liability and injury concerns, such as damage to property other than the rental car, people you hurt and related lawsuits. But many people have those coverages elsewhere. Rental car companies must provide a minimum level of liability insurance, and your personal liability coverage often applies. Also usually not covered is loss or theft of personal belongings inside the car, but that is often already covered by homeowners or renters insurance. Credit card coverage also doesn’t include ambulance or medical bills following a crash, but your personal health and auto insurance policies probably do, according to the insurance institute.
