Depends on how he is as a person. Is he independent, mature for his age? If yes, then this would expand his horizons and it is a life changing option. He would become self reliant, open his mind, learn how to rise to a challenge etc.

If he is someone that is just out of the Narayana kinda grind and tuned to the Indian way of teaching, he would find it difficult initially to assimilate. If he is someone that has not had any independence, Bachelors in the US can be disastrous as there would be very less guidance. It is also easier here to lose track of the objective and get into a downward spiral. If he can receive guidance and has an independent bent of mind, he should come here.
