Plane was well-maintained, last major check was in June 2023: Air India CEO's new statement amid probe into crash

The aircraft (AI-171) underwent last major check in June 2023 while the next was scheduled for December 2025, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said.

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson on Thursday asserted that the AI-171 which crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12 was well-maintained and showed no issues before flight. The Air India plane crash claimed 275 lives (241 on board the ill-fated aircraft and remaining on the ground).

According to him, the aircraft underwent last major check in June 2023 while the next was scheduled for December 2025. "The plane was well-maintained, with its last major check in June 2023 and the next scheduled for December 2025. Its right engine was overhauled in March 2025, and the left engine was inspected in April 2025," he said in a fresh statement released today.

Both the aircraft and engines were regularly monitored, showing no issues before the flight.

Stating that safety is Air India's highest priority, CEO Wilson shared some important facts about flight AI-171 to "provide clarity during this difficult time". On the ill-fated aircraft's crew, he said, "The flight was led by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a highly experienced pilot and trainer with over 10,000 hours flying widebody aircraft. First Officer Clive Kunder, had over 3,400 hours of flying experience."

Its a normal practice to send black boxes that has damage beyond the normal retrieval of data to be sent to NTSB lab in washington. This is pretty standard in all Boeing, DC aircrafts as they are american made. But this time its suspicious due to Boeing's safety issues in the recent past.
