rad9 Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 I don't know about H1Bs, but this will devastate graduate students, especially PhDs and post-docs at T50 universities. So, this is very bad for me, as a minimum of 240K jobs will be cut from academia: Quote

NSF and NIH are discretionary spending so they can't go through reconciliation. Expect the administration to try and pass appropriations with these cuts later in the summer. 1 Quote

BacklogBadham Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 Key Provisions with Expiry Dates Temporary Tax Relief on Tips and Overtime: The bill allows individuals to deduct a capped amount of tip wages ($25,000) and overtime pay ($12,500, phasing out for incomes above $150,000) from their taxes. These provisions are effective from 2025 through 2028 and then expire. Child Tax Credit: The Senate version increases the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 per year (with certain eligibility requirements), but this enhanced amount is set to expire after 2028. State and Local Tax (SALT) Deduction Cap: The SALT deduction cap is raised to $40,000, but reverts to $10,000 after five years (i.e., after 2028). Clean Energy Tax Credits: Tax credits for electric vehicles are phased out by September 2025, and EV charging credits by June 2026. Tax credits for biofuels are extended to 2031. Other Expiring Provisions: Many of the tax cuts and deductions extended from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are set to expire at the end of 2028, unless further extended by future legislation. 1 Quote
