Stabilises it energy by diverting more from Middle East into EU which was going to Asia...

India could have bought oil from US shale oil drillers.

But we decided to buy from Russia.

 

We like Russia and China because they don't care about human rights and corruption unlike USA & EU

We like USA & EU because we have a large surplus trade with USA & EU and we get a huge amounts of money as remittances from Indians working in USA.

Ideally our politicians want a trade relationship that is lucrative like that with Western countries ( USA & EU)  but without them questioning us about any human rights issues or corruption
