This company only hires who needs visa sponsorship. Wording may be wrong but no ill intent Quote

kevinUsa Posted August 6 Report Posted August 6 A Fortune 100 company i worked for had what they internally called the Indian mafia. It was run by 1 Indian guy who would only hire in other H1B's, and then he worked them to the bone. They worked extremely long hours, holidays, all the time. The building would be empty, but they were there. He held the threat of going home over their heads. He would scream and shout and abuse the Indian employees under him, but be perfectly normal with everyone else. I interviewed for a different job in an area he oversaw, and the interview was just a series of impossible questions to answer. The job was for a technician role, but he asked me to sit down and draw the entire wiring schematic of the machine I had worked on at a previous job. From memory. Not only is that impossible, but it would also be passing on proprietary information. It was bullshit. He just had to hold a certain number of interviews with locals before he could declare it impossible to find workers here and bring in more visa holders. The whole time we talked, he was obviously impatient and pissy. This was a waste of his time and a forgone conclusion. I saw the look on the face of the guy who came out before me and I should have known then that this was ** up. The 'Indian mafia' lasted for over 10 years before the company finally canned the ring leader in a wave of layoffs. Then, just last year, the company completed a community project to build low cost apartments right next to one of the engineering buildings. The local news made a whole splash about it, how great it all was that the company was giving back. Well, in my new job I have access to information about construction projects in the area. Turns out the apartment was not built well and has a ton of issues. We had a hard time putting electrical services on the building because they kept failing inspections. Who do you suppose the company actually built the apartments for....it wasn't the 'community.' They wanted housing they controlled. Now, they can take away their jobs and their housing all at one time. Quote
