If you ask me, being able to do Math is not at all important. You have calculator and AI. But learning Math gives you a good opportunity to develop aptitude and critical thinking. This helps in making better decisions when they grow up. The Batti route kills it. You cannot ignore the fact that good grades get you to good universities and better opportunities. Alumni is a big thing in US and it’s a good network. At the end of the day, kids don’t listen to you and will do anything to get good grades and that includes cheating as well. So it’s all immaterial in the end. Their logical thinking will develop one way or other. These concepts are useless once you starts working. But basic math is what’s used and mental math is important. Quote

Its not minimal, based on kids capacity they move up to higher level or continue at same level. Oh Sorry , Below average of a 2 standard state curriculum. I know I don't have to for my 2 grade to be above average of 3 grade, but I don't find a reason for sending a kid to the same 2nd standard math again when he is getting the same at school. I guess you understand, I don't have to go to Disneyland if it same to same as our local amusement park. Quote

How do you do 2 digit multiplication? Say 84 x 35 They way they teach is to multiply 84 with 5 and then in the next line, put a placeholder and then multiply 84 with 3 and then add up the 2 numbers. Sounds harmless but sets a dangerous precedence. They don't tell why a place holder is being put. And this keeps getting repeated in every concept. Their main concentration would be on volume. I have looked at their booklets and the entire booklet for the week would have just 1 or at the max 2 trick questions. Rest is just blind practice. Proper way is to do more trick questions(25-30%)....so many that basic questions would be a breeze. Take a look at Singapore math. Much better. Quote

Its better to look for alternatives. If you are already sending your kids....sit with them and ask them what and how they teach the concepts. Its pure rote learning.....antha batti puranam. how abt RSM Quote
krishnaaa Posted August 8 Author Report Posted August 8 3 minutes ago, pandugadu999 said: how abt RSM Head good things about Russian math...didn't get a chance to explore. AI answer. It depends on the child's learning style and what you want them to gain. Kumon focuses on repetition and memorization of basic math facts, while the Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) emphasizes logical thinking and problem-solving. If a child needs help building a strong foundation in basic arithmetic, Kumon might be a good starting point. If the goal is to develop critical thinking and advanced problem-solving skills, RSM might be a better fit. Here's a more detailed breakdown: Kumon: Focus: Repetition and memorization of basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc.). Pros: Can help students develop speed and accuracy with calculations, potentially boosting confidence in math. Cons: Can be tedious and repetitive, potentially leading to frustration, and may not foster deep understanding or problem-solving skills. Best for: Students who need to solidify their understanding of basic arithmetic and improve their speed and accuracy. Russian School of Mathematics (RSM): Focus: Logical thinking, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Pros: Can help students develop critical thinking skills, potentially leading to better performance in more advanced math courses. Cons: May not be suitable for students who struggle with basic arithmetic or require a lot of repetition to grasp concepts. Best for: Students who are naturally inclined towards math, enjoy problem-solving, and want to develop a strong foundation for higher-level math. In essence: Kumon can be a good choice for building a solid foundation in basic math skills through repetition and memorization. RSM can be a better choice for students who are interested in developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Quote

You have a huge mental block which prevents you from putting yourself in others shoes or to go a layer deep to find the actual truth. Its the same in every post. I can't keep repeating the same thing over and over and you move on to a new point everytime I post a rebuttal. Not worth the time. Let's agree to disagree and move on. 1 Quote
