White House trade advisor Peter Navarro warned India about "cozying up" to Russia and China through oil purchases in an op-ed published Monday in the Financial Times.

"If India wants to be treated as a strategic partner of the US, it needs to start acting like one," Navarro wrote.

We wont be able to buy processed oil as it will hurt our processing facilities. India sold huge amount of processed oil based from Russian Crude purchases to other countries who are effected by USA sanctions.

Chinese will grab most of the profits. It’s not as viable from profit perspective for Ambani

You are missing the most important point here, its not Ambani that is making money here but Russia…

Ambani barely makes any cut by refining…in-fact Ambani refined minor share of the crude. Nayara does most of the refining and selling.

Usually our mind is tuned in such a way that what ever happens, we want to link Ambani as prime and sole beneficiary.

Not really. Buying processed fuels is viable only if the crude is discounted. Eg, Like Russian crude which can be bought at 20% discounted price and this margin is used a cushion for processed fuels. India does have good refining facilities but demand is always high so much so that such an arrangement won’t really hurt the market. Perhaps, North East has such a market already. Imports refied fuels Myanmar and sell in the local market.

This formula does not work for other markets, India and China has such a market and can absorb refined fuels mainly because of high price and micro retailing system. This is nothing new but in northern africa, south america this system is pretty common…by passes traditional market economics.

In global politics, relationships are transactional, with partnerships forming and dissolving based on shared interests rather than enduring loyalties.
