when china was helping Pakistan with a secret covert operation to come up with a nuclear program, India was under tremendous pressure and rush to become nuclear state. Under Vajpayee and incredible DRDO and Baba Atomic scientists , we not only did successful nuclear tests, but did way better than our competitors. It wouldn't have been possible if we are not  under pressure with our neighbor getting nuclear equipped. 

In fact India started gaining more respect from international community after that (rightly so). And to our luck IT boom coincided around the same time and many foreign countries trusted India and its capabilities to offshore lot of work.

India is not founded in our time or our father's time and has been there for thousands of centuries. We might have set backs, but when the time comes, we always come through.

All major decisions and successful programs today, were the result of such pressure in the past.
