At least two children were killed in a shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis during a Mass to mark the first week of school, according to police, in a “deliberate act of violence.”

• The suspect is dead, law enforcement officials said. A Minneapolis-area healthcare system says it is caring for multiple victims.

• Officials say the shooter fired through windows at people sitting in pews, injuring at least 17.

The suspect was in his early 20s and “does not have an extensive known criminal history,” O’Hara said.

The gunman approached the school on the outside of the building during Mass and began “firing a rifle through church windows,” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said.

The shots were fired “towards the children sitting in the pews at the mass, shooting through the windows. He struck children and worshipers that were inside the building,” he said.

O’Hara continued, “The shooter was armed with a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol.”

O’Hara later added, that authorities believe that the gunman fired “all three” weapons.

FOX 9 sources identified the shooter as Robin Westman. FOX 9 has confirmed Westman’s mother previously worked at Annunciation. The shooter’s mother also applied to change her child’s name from Robert to Robin in Dakota County in 2019, according to court documents obtained by FOX 9. According to the name change filing, Westman identified "as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification."
