   With agriculture being a major livelihood for the rural population, ensuring reliable irrigation is vital. Kaleshwaram project irrigates over 37 lakh acres (3.7 million acres) of farmland, boosting crop yields and supporting multiple cropping seasons.
3. Drinking Water Supply
   The project also addresses the drinking water needs of rural and urban populations across the state. In addition to irrigation, it supports Mission Bhagiratha, the state’s initiative to provide piped drinking water to every household.
4. Industrial and Urban Development
   The availability of water from Kaleshwaram supports industrial zones and urban expansion, particularly in areas like Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, and Siddipet, facilitating balanced regional growth.
5. Reduction of Groundwater Dependency
   Telangana has historically relied on borewells and groundwater, leading to severe groundwater depletion. Kaleshwaram provides a sustainable surface water alternative, helping restore groundwater levels over time.

While the technical challenge of lifting water to high elevations is immense, other multi-factor issues further complicate the planning and execution of such projects. These include:

• Interstate disputes, especially with Maharashtra, over river water sharing
• Water allocation agreements under the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal

As I said before, real beneficiaries are happy for the past 6 years due to additional water availability. Yes, publicity kosam, polavaram complete kaledu but we made this happen ani pattiseema ki busses esi chupincharu...ekkada kuda ide polavaram project ani cheppale. Adi paytms creation. Jaggadu gaggolu pettadu waste of money but in the light of delays with polavaram this was uselful...that doesn't in anyway means it replaces polavaram project. Project value 1500 kotlu...1427.7 crores to be precise.
