Modi to Address the Nation Today at 5 PM

Generally, when the prime minister of the country is addressing the nation, we can expect pretty significant announcements of crucial communications to the common public. Incidentally, Prime Minister Modi is addressing the nation at 5 PM today, and there is a lot of discussion on the same.

This communication from Modi comes shortly before the implementation of the GST reforms in the country. While the new regulations are going to come to effect from tomorrow, September 22, Modi is going to address the nation at 5 PM today.

The natural expectation is that Modi could be briefing the nation about the new reforms. It must also be noted that the new GST reforms were recently briefed in Andhra Pradesh, Assembly sessions as well. Modi is expected to address it at a larger capacity later today. But there is no official confirmation on this year.

Then there is this burning topic about the United States government, imposing a new $100K fee on H-1B Visa and we have to see if Modi would speak a few words on this crucial matter.

Either way, we have to see what would be the approach that would be presented by the Prime Minister later in the day today.

  • GST rate cuts: Modi announced that most everyday items would become cheaper, as 99% of products previously in the 12% tax slab would now move into the 5% slab. This reform is part of "next-generation" GST measures that came into effect today, September 22, 2025.
  • A "double bonanza": The Prime Minister referred to the combined effect of the GST rate cuts and the recently announced income tax relief (up to ₹12 lakh) as a "double bonanza" for the poor and middle class. He stated that these tax decisions would save the public more than ₹2.5 lakh crore annually.
  • "GST Bachat Utsav": Modi declared the start of a "savings festival," or "GST Bachat Utsav," coinciding with the start of Navratri, celebrating the increased savings for Indian families.
  • Call for self-reliance: The Prime Minister urged all citizens to buy "Made in India" products and free themselves from foreign goods. He stressed that purchasing Swadeshi products—those made with the hard work of the nation's people—would strengthen the country's prosperity.
  • Appeal to state governments: Modi called on state governments to support the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiative by boosting local manufacturing and creating an attractive investment environment.
  • Indirect mention of US tensions: While not explicitly naming the U.S., Modi's emphasis on self-reliance came amid strained trade relations, including new US tariffs on Indian goods and higher fees for H-1B visas.
