Moon_Walker Posted September 27 Report Posted September 27 From Indian expats group My manager who is always concerned about h1b hinted me that the company might take a call to not renew h1b going forward as the HR head etc feel that it’s going to get worse. He said situation is temporary, but my h1b ends Feb 2026 and they are not raising extension now. But they will likely offer me a good role and position at our office in Hyderabad or Bangalore. Is it just my company doing or other companies doing this too ? California based/tech company. Looks like h1b hiring fear is real now. Thoughts/suggestions. Quote

Visas would be awarded to the employers who submit the highest bids. Increases the wage floor: It would more than double the minimum required salary for H-1B visa holders, from the current $60,000 to $150,000, or the average U.S. salary for a similar role, whichever is higher. The wage floor would also be adjusted annually for inflation. Ends the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program: The bill would eliminate the OPT program, which allows international students on F-1 visas to work in the U.S. for a period after graduation, often at a lower cost to employers. Limits third-party assignments: It would restrict the placement of H-1B workers at third-party job sites to a maximum of one year. This is aimed at addressing outsourcing practices that critics say undermine local jobs. https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/2821?overview=closed While the bill was just introduced in the Senate, a similar version was filed by Banks in 2021 when he was serving in the House. That earlier legislation cited findings that 60 percent of H-1B positions were assigned at wages “substantially below the local median” for the occupation, and that the Optional Practical Training program functioned as an employer “tax break” by exempting companies from payroll taxes when hiring foreign graduates.
