Non Agile lo 'Manager' Untaru. this process is known to everybody We use Agile but never heard of the work Chapter Leader. Probably different terminology. We use Rocks/Pebbles/Sand concept. Rocks being categorized as big Initiatives (projects), pebbles being medium and rock being sand. Initiative leader is considered similar to Chapter Leader as per your definition. I went through my progressions in traditional environment. Mid management. Wanting to become a manager is one thing and having the skill set to become one is another thing. You need to do an honest assessment and sometimes having a mentor in office (mid management) and asking for an honest assessment of you as a manager. Take the feed back positively and work on the skill set. Make improvements. Ask your manager for some opportunities where you lead an effort/etc and showcase your skills. Quote

Start applying for positions one level above. See how those Interviews go and evaluate yourself again. Quote

In fact I did not apply for any manager positions. Our director offered the role saying I got potential. I took it on a temporary basis to get a feel. I realized I was already doing a lot of those activities in the current role like managing offshore team, managing projects/work, risk management, budgets/resource planning/mgt. I had setup 1:1s with other leaders in IT to be my mentor. I was a mentor to some people as well. It just worked out .. 3 Quote
