'Rocky' Ehagaban fatally shot outside Robinson Township motel, friend says he was trying to help

ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Pa.

Rekesh Ehagaban, known as Rocky, was killed outside the Pittsburgh Motel in Robinson Township while trying to help during a shooting.

"He was a husband. He was a father. He was a friend. He was a true gentleman. He was someone you could count on when you needed to," said Dr. Frank Verri.

Verri said Rocky was a close friend who always tried to help everyone. He said he spent the past several years helping those living at The Pittsburgh Motel to get permanent housing.

Police said on Friday, Rocky heard commotion outside the motel and went out to check on Stanley West, a guest at the motel.

Investigators said West had just shot a woman who fled the scene. Police said Rocky asked West if he was OK before investigators said West approached Rocky and shot him in the head.

Dr. Verri said, "Knowing that there was a woman in distress and he went out to do that, that just shows you his integrity. That's a man of credibility right there. It's a man of courage."

"It's heartbreaking. It's sad. It's heartbreaking and was absolutely unnecessary," said Verri.

He added, "He wasn't just a good man. He was a great man. The world needs more men like Rocky."

Police said West left Rocky bleeding and drove a U-Haul van to the East Hills neighborhood of Pittsburgh, where he was involved in a shootout with police, injuring a Pittsburgh police detective before being shot himself.

Authorities said West shot three people that day, injuring a woman and a police officer and killing Rocky, who had stepped outside to help.

Services for Rocky are scheduled for Thursday.

Stanley West faces charges of homicide and attempted homicide.

Pennsylvania State Police said they plan to add more charges, including aggravated assault on an officer.

Very sad! Unfortunately, we will see more such killings and attacks on Indians.. in the current atmosphere, we are very vulnerable as lot of Indians work in gas stations and cheap motels..
