We used to export raw materials like iron nikil led timber 

currwntly we are not exporting what china wants 

check over all exports and imports 

over all Indian consumption increased alot 

only india has advantage of leds crude oil

Another major reason for fall in exports, We have not been exporting raw materials like iron ore etc. Local

per capital mineral consumption itself is increasing at a speed that we may not export iron ore anymore. 

trade deficit kanipistundi, kani this is a better deficit, which can only get better.

It's not just about make in India ,even micromax ,karbonn are made in India but they import high tech component and assemble them adding very less value.

 even vietnam assembles and exports more phones than india.

What components does india even  make 

Afaik except plastic and metal casings india doesn't produce any components.

govt started PLI scheme (prod linked incentive) but it still hasnt shown the results....I expect more from govt

my biggest fear is if modi govt cannot solve this then who else will. He should setup a separate ministry for trade deficits and need to tackle urgently

Overall exports matter more.

One of the reasons why China imports increased is because we are importing lot of machinery to upgrade our factories.
