probably motive for the murder is not money ... that guy was probably ex bf with whom she shared room and as usual he did bear the cost for apartment and living expenses ... as the father said that he lost his job ... and daughter helped him ... at that time probably she got hooked to some other guy with a job ...

probably the ex bf ... got his new job .... now probably asking for reconciliation ... for which she was also may be willing ... as she went to his apartment on Dec 31st night ... (timing is important) ... while she was with him ... the 2nd guy might had called her ... asking to meet ... and she chose to go to meet the 2nd guy ... this is where the 1st guy got enraged and stabbed her !!

I read the article this morning. Sorry for their parents loss, but the motive is not money at all. No one kills people for $1500. Also he owes money to others as well. 
It has to be love/possesiveness/cheating/one side love, whatever the case here.
