The best areas might look almost the same but the worst areas in new york are definitely better than worst areas in Ethiopia.

Try dumping 10x the population in those cities and see. Restaurants won’t be sufficient so roadside vendors will start. Traffic can’t be controlled.

Addis ababa has comparable  population density to banglore ,new york is more denser than Mumbai ,it's just poor planning.

Anna, we blame population density. Tokyo/Singapore has probably higher population density and its cleaner.

We claim poverty, Sri Lanka is poorer than India but it is much much cleaner.

We claim uneducation, Vietnam is also uneducated but still lot better.

Personal experience, went to Sri Lanka for holiday. Did not even hear horn in colombo. Inka outside city aiyte neat, clean and orderly ga untayi. Maa tour driver was very particular abt collecting trash and throwing it at end of day. Felt totally different even though the culture is similar to south indian culture.
