The most influential music composer Indian movie industry has ever produced. Insane range.

Scarcely believable to think he gave music for Tamil movies rooted in the local sounds to music in movies like LAGAAN and RANG DE BASANTI.

 

I must admit as his ardent fan - he's lost his Midas touch and magic in the last decade or so. So his recent track record- at least for me has not been remarkable. 

 

And his recent comments to BBC - you can chalk it down to freedom of expression but I was a bit disappointed. 

 

Him being a Muslim had no bearing in me loving his past music - and that remains the same now - when I no longer gravitate towards his music.

Perhaps fame may have dulled his spirit or more simply he's lost his hunger and thus lost his form.

 

Having said all of that A R Rahman remains the single most important movie music composer of all time. He's given the sort of music that even 10 music directors cannot contrive to give in one life time. 

To end - A R Rahman's peak was in the past- his music has become mediocre bar some exceptions here and there. Which is why most people may have moved on from him. It happened to Ilayaraja, it happened to ARR. 

Dont think this has got anything to do with him being sidelined.
